I wished, we could have stayed longer for relaxing and exploring this rural area. Sue and David are wonderful attentive and communicative hosts speaking reliable German and French. They made their house our home for 1 night. An amazing breakfast was served in the morning. Should we ever be crazy enough to fly more than 20.000 km to get here we definetely will check in again at the Mairenui Rural Retreat. Thanks you very much. Gregor and Johanna

Perfect farm stay experience. The breakfast choices and the quality of the food are great. We arrived close to midnight and the room was kept warm to welcome us. The animals too greeted us upon our arrival. The direction to the home and the utilities are clear that we do not have issue finding them

It was a great place to stop off between Lake Taupo and Wellington. Staff were extremely friendly, and there was a private hot tub on site you can hire for a small fee. Food at the restaurant was scrumptious. I recommend the chicken burger and smash beef burger. Room was very spacious. Wish I stayed two nights.

Absolutely STUNNING!! The bed and breakfast is situated at the top of rolling hills that overlooks flocks of sheep and cattle with mountains in the background. Extremely comfortable, and the food and drinks were generous and delicious!

You have just everething you need to enjoy your visit at this B&B. All materials , fournitures and kitchen goods are good quality. The view is fantastic and the parking very easy. Very clean, confortable bed and calm situation. The hosts are helpful if you need them, otherwise they are discreets. Thanks for the great breakfast. I appreciate a "real coffee". To recommed, absolutely.

    We stayed overnight at flat hills.

    We stayed overnight at flat hills. It was interesting staying in the timber pod, the shared facilities were very good and staff went out of their way to courier an item we left behind. The shared kitchen was a generous size and meant we met and talked to other guests while making breakfast which was nice.

    It was a family-friendly environment that offered many activities for the kids and was well-equipped with a variety of resources to cater to our individual needs—a lounge room, adequate cooking facilities, and very clean ablutions with no major concerns. We fully recommend it for those who are looking for a space to rest and recover, an added bonus is waking up and heading over to the cafe for a hot breakfast.

    This is a very rural and not very touristed area of New Zealand. If you want very fresh air, and very quiet surroundings with no sound except birdsong, this is the place. Views and scenery are very attractive without being spectacular. Make sure you fill your car with petrol and pack snacks. Some of the rural towns are very small and you won't necessarily find a cafe or a petrol station. Having said that, if you spot a cafe, it will probably be pretty good. I cannot get over how cafes in the middle of nowhere in New Zealand still have great coffee and delicious food.

    A very relaxing place so quiet huge garden NO TV Plenty of room for a group. The Villa is like going back in time. A warm place but has wood fire that warms the whole house!! Would stay a week next time. Plenty of space for my dog to roam safely!!!
