Love the mulled wine (the best I've ever had in nz). The restaurant was full and the food was amazing, we had seafood chowder, pork ribs, and a burger. The room is spacious and love the idea of providing the electronic blanket.

Very attentive owner who seems to love every inch of his place and aimed to share this feeling with the guests. Every detail in the suite is useful and brings comfort and feeling at home. Jacuzzi is a great option. One and only place for hedonists who want to get more than backpackers’ places usually offer. The Brie in Cyprus Tree is smth you cannot miss, must have.

    Really lovely township to stay out for visits to Mount Ruapehu - great selection of food venues (both takeaway like La Pizzeria or dine in like Cypress Tree). Carrot Land adventure park is a great visit for little kids.

    Ohakune is a town still recovering from COVID and some not...

    Ohakune is a town still recovering from COVID and some not so good ski seasons, but it is beautiful and well worth the visit. Apart from skiing and snowboarding, the mountain is a beautiful place to hike, mountain bike, or just visit for the view. Ohakune is small and easy to get around, with great cafes and restaurants. The ski shops are fantastic with really helpful staff (TCB is amazing).

    The apartment was very cold gas fire did not give off much heat the was a tiny fan heater which did warm one bedroom up ,beds were comfy no milk when we arrived no homely touches . This apartment is over priced Carol and Tony

    Ohakune has a great selection of stores, cafes, restaurant...

    Ohakune has a great selection of stores, cafes, restaurant and bars along with a supermarket (New World) and other great attractions such as Ohakune Hot Tubs. Would highly recommend Mountain Kebabs if you're hungry, so good and owner been there 30 years! Pop into The Chocolate Eclair Store which has some great goodies and good coffee. Its also close to Turoa ski field (22-25 minutes) and Whakapapa Ski field and Village (40 minutes). Plenty of other tourist spots like Gollum's Pool etc. Worth the stay if you want to explore close to the mountains.

    Lots of activities for families.

    Lots of activities for families. We visited the Dinosaur Museum in Raetihi, Smash Palace in Horopito, hired bikes from Ohakune and the family biked to The Junction and back. Did the Mangawhero Forest Walk, took 4 year old grandson but it did take us a lot longer than an hour, probably 1.5 to 2 hours. The Carrot Adventure Park is awesome! Caters for all ages of children including adults! It was a bit harder to figure out where to go for a meal - but we enjoyed Mountain Kebabs for a cheaper takeaway meal and Osteria for a comfortable and Cosy family sit down meal.

    This property is truly value for money! Well organised and very well looked after, with double glazed windows, a heat pump in each room and a fireplace + open fire to make it a lot more cozier on a very cold winter night! Honestly, there's not one single thing my family and I can fault about this beautiful, spacious lodge with a lot of character! We only stayed there for three nights, but wish we stayed for longer! Thank you so much for letting us experience this outstanding place with outstanding views at Mt Ruapehu :)

    Perfect for two people, Small but comfortable en-suite room with t.v and Wifi access. The hotel also has a spa pool which is the perfect way to finish the day. We ate in the hotel Restaurant and the food was good, reasonably priced with large portions. Always a good combo. We will eat there again next time we stay at the King Hotel.

    I think we stayed the wrong time of year! (February)The hotel was a bit quiet. I’m sure in the ski season it’s much busier with nice open fireplaces. The rooms are ok. Restaurant & breakfast ok. Good food.
