Tranquil town away from the touristy hubbub of Te Anau but within range to catch the tour to Milford Sound. The Church restaurant served excellent meals at a reasonable price. Manapouri is a breathtakingly beautiful area with a quiet restful atmosphere. There is a lovely restaurant nearby and other food outlets. Lots to do in the area too. There are the day and overnight trips to Doubtful Sound, a stunningly beautiful area that will blow your mind. You do need to book ahead for these trips. Manapouri is a very small, lakefront town that has a beautiful view of Lake Manapouri and the mountains beyond. It also has a fantastic cafe/bar/restaurant called The Church, which I thoroughly recommend. Manapouri is a quiet place with few amenities, does have a church pub restaurant which was great, a must visit . And an antique traders shop and cafe and petrol. Station . The area is very close to the Doubtful Sound cruise terminal, which has cruises daily into Doubtful Sound which takes you across lake Manapouri . Then about the place : I really liked it, it has so much charm and cuteness to it. It arrived late and stay only one night but a few days in Manapouri in the summer would be really special in a place like that. The dorm was nothing special - really basic but pretty big for just 8 beds and co sideline yhe price I was happy with what I got. Very convenient location if visiting Doubtful Sound which is only a few minutes drive away. There was a power outage in Manapouri/Te Anua basin during one of the evenings we were there. Host John got in touch and kept us updated. Thankfully it was a relatively short one.
