The place is a real hidden gem in Tangalle. We loved the pool and the vibes of the place. Everyone was extremely friendly and smiling all the time. The food in the hotel's restaurant is amazing. Our room was exactly like in the pictures, we chose the one with a sofa in the balcony so that we can chill outside. The room was light, full of sunshine and great decoration. There was also a fridge and a hairdryer, which is absolutely a plus. Johan and his team made our stay unforgettable, they assisted with organizing programs and transport.

We spent a lot of time researching hotels and accommodation along the south coast of Sri Lanka. We wanted to find somewhere that was clean and comfortable by western standards, that had a bar and restaurant, had a swimming pool and was on the beach. We found all of this and more at the Sleeping Elephant with a superb team looking after us under the friendly eye of owners Jaroslav and Monika. We didn't want to be in a busy area, tick, we didn't want crowds, tick, we didn't want nightlife and late bars, tick, we wanted wild and relatively quiet beaches with accessible restaurant/bars along the beach, tick. We got everything we wanted there, being in a very comfortable and spacious villa in a small resort where you get hands on hospitality without people being overbearing. The food is really good and there's a good choice there and on the drinks menu. While we were there we saw a mixture of families and couples and all seemed to be really happy with their choice to stay here. We saw turtles laying eggs nearby in a managed conservation beach, saw masses of wildlife in and around the resort (monkeys, eagles, monitors) and felt so safe and comfortable for the entire time. Thanks so much Jaroslav, Monika and team, it was our first time in Sri Lanka and our first stop and you made it a dream start in a beautiful country.

This place was simply the best place we stayed at in Sri Lanka. The hosts were so welcoming and caring. Early check in and late check out was not a problem. The breakfast was perfect Srilankan breakfast, homemade of course.

I think this might be the best place I've stayed at in my travels, atleast in this price range. Staf are great, facilities excellent, garden pretty, location is out of the way but there is easy access by bike or tuktuk, pool is gorgeous and food is amazing (so no real need to go anywhere else). I really can't fault the place. Was sad to leave and would gladly come back. Highly recommended!

Such a unique stay in the heart of the village. The house was so comfortable and secluded and the owner attentive and also appreciative of giving us our space. Nothing was to much trouble. The breathtaking local beach and the baby turtles were an unexpected highlight as was the sunrise kayak on the local lagoon. It was one night but memories that will stay for a lifetime.

    The owners and staff were delightful - the service great. The cabannes were in the style of my travels 50 years ago and a great reminder of how simple life can (and should) be. For eating there is plenty of choice in the area and all easy walking but not always in 32 deg 😂

    Tangalle is a mix of typical large commercial local Sri Lankan town buzz combined with touristy beach / restaurant / bar area. Very laid back along that 'strip', many bars and restaurants vying for business so you can be selective.

    Perfect place to relax by the beaches, some of them are like or similar a near private beach type; but, difficult to swim. Generally, the waves and current are rough and sometime dangerous to rocky beaches; in early morning time, 9-10 am, waves and current can be managed to some extent....

    It’s more of a local sleepy town and less touristy than the rest of the south coast. Lots of great beaches and family run restaurants. I could have easily used it as a base and stayed longer had the weather been better.

    Tangalle is a hidden gem!

    Tangalle is a hidden gem! So many wonderful beaches around the town. I stayed by the Goyambokka beach but preferred the neighbouring Silent beach, which was longer and so beautiful. I had dinner at neighbouring South Sea Pearl Beach restaurant, which served amazingly delicious food.

    The town has very little to offer.

    The town has very little to offer. It’s a noisy, chaotic typical Sri Lankan town. The only redeeming factor was Silent Beach on the Western side of town. We also enjoyed a nice meal at Cactus Lounge.

    It's an absolute gem if you are looking for a calm, relaxing vacation on the beach near the ocean. The hotel sits just 50 metres from the beach - you can see the views of the ocean from your balcony. The surroundings are amazing - you can walk along the vast shore for miles without hardly meeting anyone, except for a crab or two :). Compared to other places near Sri Lankan coast that we visited during our trip (like Unawatuna, Galle) this was by far the best beach experience. We would come back again without a doubt.

    Spacious, modern and very clean rooms. The bedding is comfortable. The pools are very well maintained. The staff and the manager are attentive and caring. Located a few hundred meters from the beach and small shops, the Anama is a small haven of peace. During your stay, don't hesitate to try the delicious Sri Lankan breakfast, the best we have tasted in Sri Lanka. We highly recommend the anama Tangalle by Anka

    - Really lovely family of Host - was a pleasure to meet them; - A great huge breakfast -> best honey&coconut pancakes we have eaten in Sri Lanka!! - good service to price rate. - we had some additional help of host to get to the hotel - thank you for that! - good spot to be close to the beaches and still not so far from bus stops (we went by walk from and to bus stop)

    The hotel is located by the side of one of the best beaches in Tangalle, Goyambokka beach. We stayed in one of the cabanas for two nights, and you can listen the waves from your bed. Note that if you want the Sri Lankan breakfast you need to tell them a day in advance, I will recommend it. The western breakfast was very average.

    This hotel was the best we´ve been to while visiting Sri Lanka. The room was gorgeous with stunning view. About 5 minutes walk from the Silent beach. Staff was very kind and helpful.
