Staying at Wood Palace in Ella was one of the highlights of my trip. The location is perfect — it feels like you’re tucked away in the jungle, surrounded by nature and total peace, yet you’re only a short stroll from town, cafes, and everything you need. That balance between seclusion and convenience is hard to find, but this place nails it. The family who runs it make the stay extra special. The mother who prepares breakfast is absolutely adorable — she cooks with such care, and her warm smile makes every morning brighter. The breakfasts themselves are delicious, fresh, and generous. The owner is a great bloke too — kind, genuine, and always ready to help with tips, directions, or just a good chat. If you want a stay in Ella that feels authentic, welcoming, and beautifully set in nature without being far from the action, Wood Palace is the perfect choice. Highly recommended! 🌿✨

The place was amazing !!! The view, the rooms and be close to the nature was so great. The green area, herbal plantation, mountains and you are in the middle of it. The best of our stay here were people, owner with his sister were just AWESOME !! The food was prepared fresh for us with all Sri lankan origin, so tasty, so many choices and home made. All of that gives you possibility to fill like home but in the most beautiful place in the world! Thank you ❤️

The owner is a special person. I stayed in 6 places in Sri Lanka, every owner were an amazing person, but he is a unique one. He washed my laundry, however they were full with dirty clothes. I stayed only one night and it was urgent for me to do the laundry and he immedieately helped me. Thanks!

    Ella is a wonderful place to explore. It’s very clean and has breathtaking views everywhere. The people are kind, the local food is amazing, and it’s perfect for families, friends, or groups.     People are really friendly and welcome tourists. City is very small, but attractive. The 9 arches bridge is a place everyone would like to visit. Food available in the restaurants are really testy in a reasonable price. The train ride to ella was a memorable one.

    It is very safe and tourist-friendly, nice climate. not hot, not tool, cold. Nice view of the mountains. Lot of foreigners. Food and services are mostly for foreigners which is not too hot, a good mix of local and international food, but very reasonably priced.

    We loved the Mountain View’s.

    We loved the Mountain View’s. The Main Street is a little crowded and all of the walkways are uneven. Everything is on a hill and there is a lot of walking . Stairs do not have handrails. The sites to see in the city are not easily accessible without transportation. Tuk tuk rides are very bumpy. Most of the tourists in the city are young . As an older traveler over 70, I would not recommend this location to an older adult unless you are very healthy and have good stamina for walking, heat, and bumpy rides.

    Ella is in the mountains so there is a lot of walking and lots of stairs and climbing. We saw young back packers as the majority of visitors. It was hot and humid so drinking water was very important. The tea plantation tour was good and informative. The arches trip involved a harrowing drive up a narrow bumpy road. Waterfalls were always full of people. The town is great with lots of dining options and great shops!

    The amazing and perfect nature around Ella is getting over...

    The amazing and perfect nature around Ella is getting over exploited. Too many buildings (hotels in particular) are under construction in the delicate hills of Ella, they should protect the environment as the place will loose its magic if it becomes just some kind of shopping mall / tourist centre. The hotels are already enough, no need for more.

    I had a wonderful stay at Hotel on the Rock. The highlight was definitely the stunning view from my top-floor room, overlooking the valley – absolutely breathtaking! The location is perfect, just a short 5-minute walk to the center of Ella, making it easy to explore. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made my stay even more enjoyable. The only downside was the breakfast, which was quite basic, but overall, the experience was fantastic. Highly recommended for the views and hospitality!

    You can not surpass the views from this property. It is ideally situated near the top of a hill that affords uninterrupted views of Ella gap. The service staff were all very friendly, helpful, and approachable, in particular Ranjith, in the restaurant. Breakfast is plentiful and varied. The rooms are spacious and clean. The bathroom is clean and utilitarian. It's a nice hotel but those views are the star attraction.

    hotel and restaurant are located smack in the center of town with a Bank of Ceylon atm (no transaction fees) downstairs. the room is cheap and cheerful and the balcony is a shared terrace with furniture overlooking the main street. Now the best bit, the attached restaurant is very good quality and our included breakfast was one of the best we had in sri lanka. Make sure you have one meal here if you are staying in Ella

    Gorgeous cabins just outside Ella town for an excellent price. Staff and owner are amazing and so kind - they catered to our every need and took good care of us. The views are stunning, the cabins have every luxury you need (including Netflix!) and we loved the private pool and cozy atmosphere. The breakfast was also delicious!
