Matsuyama is a city with a lot to offer. From the stunning views from Matsuyama castle, to the history of Dogo Onsen. The Best part about Matsuyama was where we stayed.
The Best part about Matsuyama was where we stayed. It was Ryokan Kominka Mitsuhama, and it was detailed by a true artist. You have 2 floors of space with the bedroom upstairs and a large living room downstairs. The living room is surrounded by 2 different mature and well lit Japanese gardens. One had many Koi swimming in the ponds. So lovely! It was in a quiet, low key neighborhood but just 2 blocks to the river and near a little working fisherman's bay. The boats were squid fisherman with lights strung on them because they fish at night with the lights to attract the squid. There were plenty of small local restaurants and bakeries. The Eco service was very convenient. The later check out and earlier check in time from most hotels was also very nice. The room was clean and well laid out for a Japanese hotel. The amenities were of good quality, and the laundry room had a decent number of machines. The free soft drink bar and work space for guests was nice. It was also easy to visit the main castle and the museum by cycle (I had cycled from Imabari after doing the Shimanami Kaido route) . The onsen was fabulous and a big drawcard for the mainly Japanese tourists. The hotel staff were professional and courteous, the breakfast was fine.
