This is a small town but perfect for conference or a few day escape from routine trip. Some attractions like shrines, few hiking trails and a railway museum are around. Kokura Castle in the evening during Cherry Blossom season was magical. Kokura Zoo is great. Slot car racing at Hunaudieres in Aruaru City was fabulous! Kitakyūshū Peace Museum is not to be missed, everyone should be required to experience this incredible place. Same goes for the Kitakyūshū Museum of Natural History! We visit Kitakyushu every year because we have family members living there. I love Kitakyushu because of how peaceful and less crowded it is and I know the place more than the other cities in Japan. I also really liked that you could open the side windows slightly if you wanted to let some fresh air in, which I find you can't often do in hotel rooms. Lots of easily accessible sockets, a bus stop right outside, and a lot of restaurants literally just across the road. Staff can speak English. Room is nice and large space. City view room is also see port view and it's really nice. Car parking was paid 1100 yen/night.
