    Llama is a typical Japanese town.

    Llama is a typical Japanese town. Great for a walk, but one day is plenty! Madarao ski resort scenery, location is wonderful. Not a big resort, nice piste and some great tree skiing, but resort more for intermediate skier, 4/ 5 days more than enough! Lots of snowboarders!

    Madarao is a small village about 25 minutes away by bus from Iiyama. It is very accessible from Tokyo by Shinkansen. Dinner has to be booked in advance since there are not too many choices. People are very friendly, as Japanese are usually are, and try to accommodate as much as possible.

    You cannot find more exceptional hosts. A family run hotel. They were very hospitable. The whole place was super clean. As breakfast and dinner were included in the price, they accommodated our special dietary needs without blinking an eye. We asked for an extra room when we arrived for our stay and they provided one at a very reasonable rate. When we were stranded at Nozowa Onsen(nearby town) one night, they came to pick us up. The food was exceptional. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

    The managers (Lisa and Stuart) were extremely welcoming and accommodating. They went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and help with our plans, which made it felt more like a B&B than a hotel. Active Life is in a great location close to the mountain. The room was a good size and there were plenty of communal spaces to hang out. We’d definitely stay at Active Life again for future trips to Madarao!

    Amazing staff and good facilities. The beds were super comfortable. Breakfast was a western style buffet, and was free! Good vegetarian choices for both breakfast and dinner at the hotel (and in general around the resort). Also amazing views whilst eating breakfast. Onsen hot bath is more like a spa, unisex and you wear swimmers.

    Location - The hotel is ski in ski out. You can board down to the bus of the mountain and there’s a lift that can take you from the base of the mountain back up. The hotel is easy to get to from the Shinkansen station.

    Blueberry is the cutest, comfiest place to stay! We loved the breakfasts each morning, and the hotel is extremely clean. Only a short walk to the ski resort, which made it easy with kids. Would love to stay here again.
