This place was like stepping into a fairy tale. The location was splendid - at 1000m altitude, we got a view of the city lights at night. The garden has been scaped to perfection, and we took a wander around the grounds, where we saw horses, a giant checkers set, and a children's playground. Dinner at a small extra charge was a 4-course affair, prepared with great care by the chef and his wife. It was hands down, the best meal I'd eaten in Italy. The antipasti starter was a fine balance of cold cuts, cheese and grilled veggies served with homemade bread, the freshly handmade pasta was cooked al dente, and by the time the main course of beef shanks, mushrooms and potatoes came out, we were already full but the food was too good to pass up. Dessert was fruit salad or semifreddo, we went with the latter. I will dream of this meal for a very long time, it was so good. At breakfast the next morning, the continental breakfast spread was generous, and the coffee was delicious. The company was even better, we had a chat with the owner Giovanni who was incredibly warm and friendly. The room was super comfortable, and romantic. We came here for a hike up Mt Etna, so we were really expecting a more casual experience but this was pure luxury. The decor of the room was so unique, and the light controls made it easy for us to go to sleep at night. The shower, the bed, the air conditioning... everything was perfect. I rate this place 20/10.

Great property with lovely pool area and lovely outdoor views. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The owners and their family were wonderful hosts, very welcoming and friendly. It’s a good value place to base yourself for visiting Etna and surrounding area.

    Ragalna is a small village part of the metropolitan city of Catania. It is south of the etna volcano and about 20km from Etna Refugio Sapienza. It is a very quiet town and has everything you would need, such as supermarkets, Restaurants, vegetable Shops and Salmuneria Shops. Also playground for kids in the town square.

    We only stayed one night and we wished we could have stayed...

    We only stayed one night and we wished we could have stayed a couple of days on this beautiful property. The staff was accommodating, friendly, and very informative about the local attractions and food we should try. The dinner we had was 5-star, it was prepared with local and seasonal ingredients that the chef prepared just for us. The portions were out of this world and you have to wear stretch pants to finish it all, but it's so worth it. The room was quaint, clean, and comfortable.

    Well Ragalna is a a very small town with approx. 4,000 residents so groceries, super markets and restaurants are quite limited. 1 improvement would be clearing the rubbish from the side of the roads but this is not only in Ragalna. It`s a pitty such a beautiful island still has these issues. The location is very good if you`re planning to go ETNA. It`s also a good location to travel to Catania, Giardini Naxos, Taormina , Enna, Acireale and various parks with destinations no longer than 1.5-2hrs to places mentioned above.

    If we had a good house then we had we should have stayed more ... ragalna is very nice and close to lot of nice places ... good restaurants and good prices .. I will definitely recommend to visit ragalna

    Umberto and Lidia are such good hosts, taking great care of their guests, with a particularly good breakfast in their spacious guesthouse, well situated in the atmospheric village of Ragalna on the southern slopes of Etna. We also appreciated the recommendation for dinner at a nearby trattoria. Car parking and good Wifi too. Great place to stay if you’d like a qualified guided excursion up the volcano, which can be organised by Umberto. Thank you both!

    The surrounding garden is beautiful with ample places to relax! The rooms were spacious for a family of 5. I liked the room decor in traditional Sicilian and beautifully up-cycled furniture. It gives you the warm feel of the village of Ragalna. The host family were very friendly and helpful. Angelo is always ready to help! The parking area is comfortable.

    The hosts are extremely friendly and the dinners were excellent! The hotel has a nice, cozy vibe and is located 8 min away from the south gate Etna tourist center (by car). I highly recommend Refugio Ariel.
