Been on my bucket list since studying Classical Studies at school. It did not disappoint. Steeped in history and you get a real feel for the terror those people experienced when Vesuvius erupted. I climbed to the crater so peaceful now hard to believe it caused such destruction. Seeing the House of the Faun made my day at Pompeii. Herculaneum was as impressive but smaller and easy to navigate. Since childhood, I was fascinated with Pompei. The ruins would take a couple of days to completely absorb as the ruins are much larger than imagined from photos. The vistas were incredible. I visited Pompeii in early October and whilst busy, I was reliably informed that it’s quiet compared to peak summer months. Definitely worth visiting and I’d recommend a guide if you can. So much to see and you should allow a good 3hrs+ to see the whole site. There’s a lot of walking to do and if you’re unsteady on your feet, that will limit some of the things you can see at the site. I’d also strongly recommend you take water with you. It’s hot work even in October. I also visited Herculaneum, which is much smaller but is in many ways, a better preserved site. You’ll see the second floor on many buildings. That said, you get a real feel for how big Pompeii was back in the day. Which is better? Pompeii for me based upon the sheer scale, variety of buildings and the wonder you get of how well developed the Romans were back in 79AD. I’d also say that the surroundings outside of the UNESCO World Heritage site are a whole lot better than Herculaneum.Guest review byMikeUnited Kingdom - 10
Lovely town with great resturants and the Archaeological...
Lovely town with great resturants and the Archaeological site of Pompeii , plus 3 train stations which allowed travel to Herculaneum, Sorrento, Naples and Salerno and the Amalfi Coast. A great central location. We used the beaches at Vico Esquerence as they were a lot cleaner that those at Castlemmare Di Stabi, but we did food shopping at Lidl there and the shopping Center in Pompeii was a treat.Guest review bySarah Blewer-BurmanUnited Kingdom - 10

Pompei archeological park was amazing.
Pompei archeological park was amazing. I was unprepared for the sheer scale of the city. I think you need a minimum of 2 days to really explore the ruins alone. Modern Pompei I did not like. It is noisy and there is nothing pleasant at all.Guest review byAnonymous

The garden is maintained very well and clean. I even got a bucket to wash my clothes by hand, and when I got out a few minutes late the owner was very kind to let me go (haha, but it was humid that day so clothes are not completely dry…) Everything is quite new and with logical design. Hot water is also stable and strong, which is a big plus in Italy. Would recommend if you want to spend 7-8 hours in Pompeii and don’t wanna waste time on transportation.Guest review byJuiTaiwan
