FAQs about hotels in Palermo

A Symbol of Sicily

Edgy and eclectic, Palermo is a symbol of all that Sicily stands for. From buzzing Vespas to the bustling Vucciria market, it simply brims with life.

Wonderful Palermo Cathedral glows radiantly in the Mediterranean sun. Nearby is the city’s last Sicilian Puppet Theater, and across the street is a palm-filled park housing Roman mosaics, though the best are in the archeological museum. At one end is the Norman Palace, a government building home to the fabulous Cappella Palatina, whose gold mosaics are absolutely breathtaking.

Equally magnificent are the gold mosaics lining the 12th-century Monreale Cathedral on the city’s outskirts. Wander the cloisters and note the varying columns and capitals – each pair is different.

Palermo also has fascinating churches: 2 of the oldest are 12th-century San Giovanni degli Eremeti and San Cataldo, each with red, Islamic-style domes. Gesú Church has an incredible Sicilian Baroque interior, while La Martorana’s frescoes are awe-inspiring. A street away is Quattro Canti, an intersection with a fountain in each corner.

Other attractions include the round Teatro Massimo, Mondello beach and Monte Pellegrino mountain overlooking the sea. You get fabulous views of this picnic spot as you fly into Palermo Airport before heading to your Booking.com accommodations.

For a Northern European, it will be a shock to see dirt and garbage everywhere. But all this will be compensated by the sun, the sea, the incredibly delicious food and the relaxed atmosphere. The incredibly beautiful nature and the city's dynamics.

The hotel was immaculate.Beautiful marble everywhere. Also, the staff was exceptionally good! Super helpful and kind. Especially Giuseppe and Farhana, they went above and beyond to improve our stay any way they could. The only negative thing was that the website for the hotel promised free wifi and when we got there there was NO WIFI in the rooms. There was free wifi but only in the hotel lobby (which, even though it was elegant, was quite small)

Palermo Is one of the most fascinating cities in the world an absolute layer cake of history from the Greeks through the Romans then the Arabs followed by the Normans, The French the Spanish and last an important part of Italy. The city is dirty and sometimes chaotic but that doesn't matter It's all part of this charm of the city. Do not miss some of the spectacular places like the Palazzi Normani with the incredible Palatine Chapel, The Archaeological Museum and the street markets, Some of the best in the world. A good tip is to get a transit pass from a tobacco shop and the Moovit app for your phone, but also be prepared for lots of walking. Restaurants abound especially in prime tourist season, The street food is very good in the markets and there are also very fine dining Restaurants of course. And lastly I would recommend not going during prime tourist season from September through November unless you love crowds of gawking instagramming tourists. April through June are very pleasant times to visit, and even winter is not very cold by northern climate standards. July and August can get very hot though.

The public transport was quite good and getting a 3 day or longer card was worth it. The Mondello beaches were lovely. Great activity around the place. it was more expensive that we had anticipated and on three occasions (once in Mondello and twice in Palermo were were over charged for courses we did not get in our restaurants) and we had to get them to correct our bill. That was annoying. A lovely city with such history and wonderful buildings.

Great number of historical sites of various eras, many nice parks and horticultural places, street traffic is classical Sicily style (😄), however famous street food district is not to my taste (too messy, dirty, dubious freshness..)

The apartment was very clean and as described. The bathroom and big shower was great, not many of those in Sicily! The kitchen is small but there are most appliances you need if you prefer home cooking. No dishwasher. The host Francesco was very helpful, and most kind. He hosted us the best he could'. Even gifted us with a bottle of wine to say arriverdeci, and booked us the best taxi service to the airport.

The location is very close to one of the most beautiful beaches in Sicily, in a quiet and safe area, very easy to reach by car in Palermo. The house had all the utilities, the host was wonderful and we will surely return.
