FAQs about hotels in Catania

A Perfect Combination of Ancient and Modern

Located on Sicily’s eastern coast, at the foot of Mount Etna, Catania is the island’s second largest city. This charming destination features unique Sicilian Baroque architecture, large squares, avenues and a very important port.

On the northern side of the Cathedral Square, the historical Palazzo degli Elefanti houses the Town Hall of Catania. The Elephant Fountain is the city’s symbol and the entrance to the main shopping area. Surrounded by stunning Baroque buildings, Piazza del Duomo is a popular meeting point for tourists and locals.

Dedicated to Saint Agata and built over the Roman Baths of Achilles, the Duomo has an impressive facade that is one of Gia Battista Vaccarini’s masterpieces. The cathedral’s dome dates to 1802, while in the vaulted interior is the grave of the well-known composer Vincenzo Bellini.

Facing the Ionian Sea, this beautiful seaside place is one the hottest Italian cities during the summer. Mount Etna is an active volcano and a nice place for skiing in winter or a trip to the solidified rivers of lava during the rest of the year.

With the busiest airport in Sicily, Catania-Fontanarossa Airport, Catania is easily accessible by numerous European destinations like Munich, Rome and London. You can stay in one of the Catania hotels, guest houses or hostels Booking.com offers.

We didn't expect to spend any time here but ended up having more than we planned. The food was surprisingly great and the atmosphere, though filled with tourists, was still fun! The ruins are a must see!

If you have not been to Catania before, you might be a bit taken aback by the run-down look of the city as there is plenty of graffiti on the walls. However, once you get past this, you'll find that the city has ALOT to offer. Beautiful buildings, fantastic history, buildings and architecture. Wonderful food and food markets, interesting art. Even some of the graffiti looked cool. It doesn't make a great first impression but it definitely grows on you. A tip - if you're on a budget and want to buy some mementos to take home, don't buy at the 'first' place you get to - stroll around the city streets and compare prices. Some places charge alot less for same items than others, and the tourist items in the city shops and markets cost alot less than at the airport.

The old town of Catania is interesting and there are significant buildings to visit. The meat and fish markets are well worth a visit. High quality shops for everything you want in the newer parts of the city. Public transport is both reliable and cheap. As are the taxis. We went by bus to Taormina which is overwhelmed with tourists but fun for a short time. Tours and activities of all sorts are available here.

A lovely city in the shadow of Mount Etna.

A lovely city in the shadow of Mount Etna. Lots of sights to see. The airport is fairly close to the city. There is a metro in the city although it only has one line and 12 stops at present but it is being expanded. Some very good museums. I can recommend two very close together. The Cinema Museum and the 1943 Allied Invasion Museum. The famous fish market is woth seeking out as well.

    Catania is a working place.

Catania is a working place. No nonsense, not too charming, but active, where people work and earn money. The buildings, streets and the overall atmosphere have a grey/black appearance (downpour from Etna), adding to the 'welcome, but we have better things to do' feel. Not overly populated with tourists (plus!!) and good food in abundance (plus!!). Some OK monuments: please visit the Biscari palace: old-school posh as opposed to the quick and superficiality of modern society.

I stayed at the Etnea Boutique Hotel and the experience was truly wonderful. The property is in a strategic location, right on Via Etnea, making it perfect for exploring Catania on foot and enjoying the lively atmosphere of the city center. The rooms are well designed, spotless, and tastefully furnished, combining modern style with comfort. Some offer a wonderful view of Mount Etna or the city, which makes the stay even more special. The staff is extremely kind and always available

An excellent place before or after a flight and I would add - even beyond that - the distance to the center of Catania is very short. And even this apartment can be used as a starting point for a trip with a car in Sicily, a well-maintained and well-furnished apartment in all respects. Near consumers, restaurants and a cafeteria. Walking distance of about 10 minutes from the airport. The owner of the apartment - a wonderful and kind woman who will help you in everything.

The location was excellent with plenty of restaurants within metres of the hotel. Fabio was an excellent host, met us at the door and even carried my wife's luggage up a flight of stairs. He also gave recommendations for local sightseeing. The room was very easily the most spacious and biggest we have stayed in in Italy. Breakfast on the terrace was fantastic. I would highly recommend Bellini Inn Dr luxe yo everyone for their stay in Catania.

My wife and I had to stay in Sicily for an extra day because our flight got canceled. The airline didn't help us out with a hotel room, so we had to scramble and find a hotel close to the airport. We were pretty stressed and tired, but we lucked out when we found this gem of a hotel. Even though we rolled in super late, they treated us so well that we completely forgot about our flight hassles. I'd totally tell anyone to stay there!
