Slightly quirky, remote town, with an interesting harbour. A few good places to eat/drink, and plenty to see and do around the surrounding peninsula - national park, hiking volcanoes, whale-watching, and even trying fermented shark. Only a couple of hours from Reykjavik but this place feels...
Only a couple of hours from Reykjavik but this place feels very much away from it all. The roads in and out aren't the easiest depending on the weather. We visited in early April and got stuck in snow (twice!) on the way in taking the northern road then feared getting stuck due to road closures and difficult driving conditions on the way out but we made it. Not only that, but the interior design of this apartment is undoubtedly one of the most thoughtful among the many apartments and hotels we have stayed in. The yellow exterior is also pleasing to the eye and leaves a lasting impression. She was very helpful and always ready to assist with anything Icelandic. We were also greeted by friendly nuns who also helped us unload our luggage! The room assigned to us had a beautiful view of Sugandisey Cliff and has a generous, clean space. The breakfast was excellent. I also liked the idea of having a chapel inside a hotel, one of a kind!
