Portlaoise is a lovely town with plenty to offer.
Portlaoise is a lovely town with plenty to offer. We enjoyed great coffee at Chocolate Brown and Square Coffee, visited beautiful local churches, and found a variety of excellent restaurants. Wanted to eat in proper Irish pub with live music as we have done at several other locations. Loads of bars, none serving food. Plenty of takeaways but didn’t want to sit on a bench to eat. Stayed at end of holiday so wanted to take home some local produce, cheese, bread, cakes but just one supermarket selling same as UK. The town is not what we expected!
The town is not what we expected! There are so many pubs and restaurants who do both sit down and take away meals. Lots of live music coming from several pubs walking up and down the town. Very nice place! Only 50 minutes from the Red Cow so we were able to get the Luas into Dublin. Although we drove ourselves, we saw lots of taxis so I'd imagine it's very easy to get around.Guest review byNicoleIreland - 2.0

I reviewed Harry Potter Themed guest house, in the house room 4. The response I received was appalling to say the least. To say I should have booked the Hilton because I mentioned we had to collect our key from a table, with no one to give us bath towels that were not supplied in the bathroom and that the shower was dirty and not cleaned since last person used it and foul smell in the bathroom. Also no fire escape plan and dangerous exposed wires for the lighted cotton wool over the bed is childish and insulting. I am not posh in any way. Just expect a clean safe room.
