There are lovely forest paths behind Cong Abbey that we enjoyed. It was fun to go into the pub/restaurant that was used in the old movie The Quiet Man. A lot of it was filmed in Cong. Cong is a beautiful historic village with its own dramatic ruined Abbey and the extraordinarily beautiful woods adjacent to Ashford Castle. There are many lovely walking trails amidst the huge trees - that include some redwoods. Sadly, many trees were downed during the devastating Storm Eowyn in January 2025, so a number of trails, including access to Lough Corrib beach, have been blocked. Also, be aware that this is a popular tourist area and buses can disgorge large groups at any time during the day. All the more reason to stay overnight!Guest review byRobertUnited States - 10.0

A beautiful , well-kept little village with so much to...
A beautiful , well-kept little village with so much to explore on foot. The Abbey is free to visit and there are several river and woodland walks leading from it. Lots of wildlife to be seen, herons, ducks and even a leaping salmon! Lydons was a great place to stay and to eat in. Beautiful village.
Beautiful village. Probably one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I have ever been. Lots to do and a good location for several excursions. The restaurants in the village were all good. The service and the food were exceptional. The boat trip on the Loch was amazing. If I were Irish, I would move to Cong. I have never felt so relaxed and at peace. This is a very charming town.
This is a very charming town. There is a lovely little river that streams through the town and there are great little trails that are fun to walk through. There are lots of cute shops and I bought some books about Irish history while there. Of course, Cong is famous for being the film site for "The Quiet Man" which brings in lots of people . It was off season so the bar and restaurant were not open, but I knew that before we left. I was not expecting the breakfast to be as good as it was (because the restaurant was closed) but the breakfast was excellent. My spouse had the full Irish on both mornings and was delighted with same. The staff were very friendly and our room was comfortable and clean. The Lodge is beautiful and has a stunning seating area by the Weir to enjoy in the good weather. The beds are extremely comfortable, rooms very spacious and the shower is perfect. Rachel puts on an amazing spread for breakfast, mixing it up every morning with freshly prepared baked goods, fruit, yogarts and so much more. A wonderful host, a delightful stay.
