With a dome reminiscent of Brunelleschi’s "The Duomo" in Florence, the Hungarian parliament building is undoubtedly the icon of Budapest. It sits majestically by the Danube, the river that both divides and unifies the 2 parts of this capital city: Buda and Pest.

Lovely city especially the Buds side where the castle is. We had an amazing Boat trip with 4 course meal and music, plus went to the thermal bath and usd the Hop on Hop Off bus to see the sights. Something to see around every corner. Every type of food you could want to eat, very multicultural. The city feels safe even at night. Trams and buses easy to use and efficient. Great city . Easy to walk to most of the main attractions. Also buses and trams available. City tour hop on hop off bus included 1hour boat trip and was good for an overview and getting bearings when we arrived. Also included is a 2 hour walking tour which again was good for a bit of history and getting bearings our guide Claudia was very good. Great night life and felt safe walking both day and night. Lots of good places to eat . Chimney cakes were a treat thing to have either on their own or as a cone with ice cream although there are so many other things to eat! The castle area has so much to see allow at least half a day if not more. Book in advance if you want to visit inside the parliament building as it was sold all the time we were there. Everything else we managed to get in to ok. The Gellert baths were good maybe less busy than some. It is closing for refurbishment on October 1st and does have an old style baths feel which was actually nice. We just did basic entry but there are packages with massages and wine etc. Margaret Island I could take a whole day if you want to see it all. We were there for half a day as that was all the time we had but did manage the main bits. I liked very much the order in general. I liked also the clean city, roads, shops, buldings and so on. I liked very much the transpotation system, among them, trams, every 3 minutes even sooner, the bus to the Airport, every 10 minutes, it was truly amazing. The helpful people to answer and guide you in eny questions. Unbelievable buldings with amazing architecture and styles. Beautiful historic city with lots of amenities to suit the tourist. Transport system is very efficient and travel cards are great value for money. The City Park is an interesting and fun place to walk around with numerous facilities including Ballon Fly, Kids Village, private dog park, boating lake and Zoo. The Thermal baths cannot be missed most especially the Rudas with its panoramic view of the city. Museums are all well run and value for money with good discounts for students and elderly. House of Terrors lives up to its name with staff in character representing the hardships Hungary suffered in the past. A clean and safe city with very little sign of panhandlers and the number of homeless seems low. Beautiful city for architecture and history. Bus tour with river trip very good. Parliament building is spectacular but expensive for the duration (40 minutes) and the system when you arrive for getting your ticket is shambolic! Synagogue well-worth a visit with holocaust museum Palate Indian restaurant is excellent and good value.
