Skala has a lovely central area with restaurants and shops, and is pleasant to wander around. It is convenient so close to the ferry port. It was easy to hire a car and there were large public parking areas. You need one if you wish to visit beaches. Psili Ammos in the south is worth the half hour hike in for its fabulous sandy beach with a good taverna. But there were no beaches within walking distance of Skala. St John’s monastery is certainly worth the visit. We jumped on a ferry to Lipsi island for a great day trip.Guest review byJanAustralia - 8.0

Skala is delightful, but Patmos overall is incredible.
Skala is delightful, but Patmos overall is incredible. We visited the beautiful village of Chora, the monastery of St John, the windmills, and the spiritual cave of the Apocolypse, where John wrote the book of Revelation in the Bible. All was achieved in one day by taxi from Skala. The entire trip was from the island of Kos by ferry, with a 2 night stay in Skala. Well worth it. Wonderful !! There are many paths that appear to be footpaths but are actually roads. Once you are aware of this, it makes it easier to travel with a scooter, which I recommend. these paths are also great to get around by foot and it is a nice walkable area.Guest review byLambaAustralia - 8.0

Pleasant, very typical Greek port town, with meandering streets and reasonably restrained tourism. Some great restaurants. Easy access to the famous monastery by bus, and the cave where John supposedly wrote the Book of Revelation; also easy bus access to some great beaches (and some not so great). It’s a lovely family run hotel. The staff were very friendly and the place was lovely and clean. It has a nice pool area and little sitting areas dotted around the multi levels of the hotel. The breakfast was delicious and the owner makes her own (very yummy) cakes and jam. We were offered a free upgrade to a sea view room which had an amazing view. The minute I got off the ferry, I saw their sign on the side of the building and it was a short, easy walk to the property. Everything was great about the room and the internet worked extremely well.
