As a base it’s ok to explore the surrounding beaches, that said I wasn’t impressed with the beaches either but then I had just come from Halkidiki, Sithonia and the beaches there are beautiful so perhaps I’m being a bit unfair. Skotinis beach and in the opposite direction le moon beach bar on Mylos beach were my favourites. Platamonas is nice to have dinner & a walk one night. As is Nei Pori. Leptokaria is great for families with kids as it's safe and all facilities are available. We didn't use the local beach,we visited by car all beaches around as my daughter is still small and didn't like small stones on the beach in Leptokaria. Leptokaria is one of the cities that really suit your needs if you like to visit many places in Pieria like Platamon, Skotina, Olympus mountain , Dion etc Sea is not excellent but i would suggest to have a car and drive to close by beaches. It has a long road with full touristic stores ( maybe interesting for the foreigners ) and lots of cafeterias , restaurants, playgrounds I would suggest for 3-4 d vacationGuest review byAnthiGreece - 10.0

It's a lively and a beautiful city that has grown a lot over the past 20 years. It's divided in two parts. The part of the city by the beach (mainly the tourist part) and the part where people live and kids go to school and families to church ... There are a lot of restaurants, local shops, greek markets and a LIDL. The prices are much cheaper than on Halkidiki, which makes it a perfect vacation place. It has a beautiful sandy beach with bars but also a lot of free space to lay your own ammenities. And if you get bored (which I don't see how) there are places nearby that you can try ex.
