It all felt like a proper treat: the people were so lovely and helpful, which made us feel at ease right from the start and we enjoyed every minute. The room was super nice and comfy and the food was great. In short: It was a wonderful “homebase” to explore this part of the Lake District.

Heartfelt Thanks for Exceptional Service at The Bunkhouse To the Management of The Bunkhouse, I am writing to express my sincerest gratitude for the outstanding assistance my two young sons, helena and I, received upon our arrival at The Bunkhouse on the 6th of june 2025 at approximately 12 midnight. Travelling from County Cork, Ireland. I didn't check times to see that reception would be closed at 1030pm.. . However, the situation was swiftly and graciously remedied by two exceptional members of your team. A kitchen staff member, whose name I unfortunately did not catch, went above and beyond to contact Aaron, who promptly came down to assist us. From the moment I met these two young lads, I felt an immediate sense of comfort and reassurance. Their professionalism, kindness, and willingness to help, even in the late hours, truly made a significant difference to our journey. We subsequently enjoyed an absolutely brilliant night's sleep on the lovely beds. My sons particularly cherished the country setting, enjoying a delightful hill walk and interacting with the sheep. These experiences created lasting positive memories for them. We will undoubtedly be returning to The Bunkhouse with my children. Please extend my deepest appreciation to Aaron and the kitchen staff member for their exceptional service. Their dedication and personal touch transformed what could have been a challenging start into a remarkably pleasant and memorable trip. Sincerely, Laura o sullivan

I normally stay at Keswick, but Threlkeld is delightful, and I could still walk into Keswick on the old railway walkway. The views are beautiful. I did a sponsored walk around Ullswater, which is nearby, and it is my new favourite lake. There are two nice pubs, otherwise small and quiet. It is a lovely holiday location.

I would recommend it but make sure you stipulate that you want to stay in the Horse and Farrier or you end up in the sister hotel ‘The Salutation Inn’ along the road. Very disappointing not to stay where I thought I had booked. Saying that we were comfortable and had all meals in the H&F which were excellent.

Threlkeld is a very small village outside Keswick. It is accessible by bus and the starting point to climb Blencathra. Castle Rigg Stone Circle is nearby and the village has a good pub called the Horse and Farrier (booking recommended) and a nice café for breakfast. If you are looking for somewhere quiet to stay near Keswick, you can't do much better than this.

Self service check in to the property a little earlier than the 3pm check in time was handy. Located at the bottom of Blencathra with various walks. We enjoyed our 1 night stay thoroughly, property was clean, warm and with great facilities. Close to Threlkeld village with two pubs for food, but there is a kitchen to make your own if needed. Also would like to thank the hosts for being so understanding when I made an error with the check out time. Would definitely stay again!

We had the pleasure of meeting the owner who was extremely hospitable and knowledgeable of the area. We particularly enjoyed the hike up Blencathra from Scales which looks down on the accommodation. Amazing views from the studio. Lovely town with 2 pubs (horse & farrier great for food) and a good cafe at Threlkeld village Hall.
