This was probably a nice seaside town in it's day, but that is no longer the case. The town centre has many run down or boarded up shops. There is a pier which is full of amusement arcades and gaming machines, but that is about all there is here. Sandown is a family friendly seaside town, with a pier and amusements. The beaches are clean and safe; the main 3 stretches of beach are dog free. A selection of restaurants and pubs selling traditional pub grub are to be found around the town. The shops in the town are varied although like many of our town centres, quite a few are boarded up now. There are 3 parks close by for families with young children. The wildlife sanctuary is well worth a visit as are the nearby towns of Ryde and Shanklin.
