Portpatrick is a small village by the sea.
Portpatrick is a small village by the sea. Most hotels are within a short walking distance of the harbour. There are cliffs on either side of the seafront that provide stunning views of the Irish sea and on a good day Mallin Head in Ballycastle and the Mourne Mountains can be seen (both in Northern Ireland). I was expecting there to be the standard takeaways but there seemed to be only one fish and chip shop that closed in the late afternoon. The Waterfront Hotel provided a great meal every evening though. Portpatrick is a lovely rugged place with great views, nice walks and a friendly welcome from those we met. Plenty of parking spaces and a very nice hostelry, the Crown hotel, which serves the best food around. I would really recommend staying there if you liked walking , especially the coastal routes and for some peace and quiet. Portpatrick is a quaint seaside village with great access to the outdoors. A good stay, in my opinion, is all down to the weather. Unfortunately the prices in the sea front bars are 'city prices' with a pint of lager coming in at £6.50. Usual prices in the region vary from around £4.00 - £4.50.
