It would have been helpful for the restaurant to have sent the account to reception for checkout. We asked if there was anything left to pay and were told it was settled via booking.com. Perhaps if we had been asked for a credit card at check-in rather then we would not have been chased for payment of the meal some days later. Nice quaint market town, better than I expected.
Nice quaint market town, better than I expected. Nice shops and cafes. It was a very hot day so we didn't do much like walking along the river/canal. Hungerford has quite a few antique type shops, a few clothes shops, charity shops and a number of pubs. There is a canal within walking distance with canal path to the next village which is about 3.5 miles and takes about 1 1/2hrs. Hungerford is delightful old market town with a history going back for centuries. It has the river, the canal, the railway and good road access. Great food, comfortable, updated rooms. Lots of snacks provided in rooms as well as fridge and kettle. Comfortable bed. Quiet despite being over a pub. Owner and staff were amazing! So great to chat too and gave us wonderful recommendations - like the Herron Gate leisure center for breakfast! We loved having drinks out on the terrace to the side of the pub.
