We loved Hexham. Historic and interesting.
We loved Hexham. Historic and interesting. The Abbey is magnificent. Great restaurants. Very walkable. Connectivity is great, esp for Hadrian's Wall which was incredible. The AD122 is a wonderful service for accessing the Wall but it should be flagged to travellers that the Bus 684 from Newcastle morphs into the AD122 at Hexham bus station. We missed it the 1st time, despite being in the Waiting Room, because we didn't know that! I would highly recommend Hexham as a base for Hadrian's Wall. Its perfect. Bus drivers are so kind and helpful. Great food, lovely people....would thoroughly recommend a visit.Guest review byOonaghIreland - 10.0

Hexham is a beautiful market town, a place where people live and work - not touristy but with everything a tourist might want e.g. cafes, restaurants, arts events, a cinema. Great public transport connections to Newcastle and Carlisle. Good facilities to buy most items for daily touring but car parking is an issue until you work out their system which does have overnight parking in a separate part of a general car park. The township has a railway station, a large Tesco and Aldi. Beautiful town on the train line from Newcastle to Carlisle.
Beautiful town on the train line from Newcastle to Carlisle. Would recommend for short or longer stays due to the amenities and infrastructure, as well as plenty of great local establishments to dine at, and the supermarkets for longer stay shopping. Taxis service trips to nearby towns like Acomb for as little as £7, and the town itself is easily walkable. Would recommend as a base for exploring Hadrians wall sites as the AD122 bus route services the main sites every 2 hours for £6 bus ticket for the day, hop on hop off. Lovely locals in the pubs were keen to chat to us when they heard our New Zealand accents and we felt so welcome.Guest review byWillNew Zealand - 8.0

Hexham and environs are beautiful,interesting and educational. Many things to do and places to visit.Roman history looms large and the various sites and museums are very well done and definitely worth visiting. Hexham itself is a quirky,delightful little town.Corbridge also. I stayed whilst visiting my mum who has recently moved to a nursing home so needed somewhere close to Hexham. The room was fine for the price and I slept really well because it was very quiet. It was also very clean. I enjoyed the breakfast and there was a good range of food. Again, for the price it was good value. We managed to get a parking space under the hotel but these are limited to about six spaces. There's a lovely atmosphere in the bar area which opens onto the pavement with tables and chairs outside.
