The mountain is extremely picturesque and well worth the technical hike to the top. Glenridding is a lovely village & I could easily have stayed a couple of nights enjoying the pubs and hospitality whilst exploring the beautiful area & swimming in the tranquil, but cols water!

We had no idea how breathtakingly beautiful it was going to be in person. We really enjoyed the Lake District and would recommend it. Dress for every type of weather. We rented a car and were able to drive through the mountains, it was probably one of the most scenic drives I have ever done and I've done Colorado, Utah, Maine, AZ etc. It was spectacular. The roads are another story. It only adds to the charm of extreme sightseeing. :-)

Great little village close to lots of attractions like Aira Force and the Ullswater Steamers. Great for fell walks, plodging in Ullswater itself and some lovely little pubs for food and drinks. Will definitely return.

It's a nice little town from which to explore the northern part of the Lakes. There's not a heap of stuff to do, and the Ullswater steamers are rapidly pricing themselves out of the market (£24 return per adult now!!!). But the hostel is lovely, the shop staff are really nice, and Aira Force is very close for a nice afternoon. The town itself doesn't have a huge number of places to eat, and some of them close early (5-ish), so you may need to look further afield for food, such as the Royal Oak or the Pooley Bridge Inn. To get to the other towns in the lakes, you either need to go back to the M6, or up and over towards Keswick (which is the wrong way for most of the lakes) or over the Kirkstone Pass which can be a little hairy for some timid drivers. The road up through Matterdale to the A66 and across to Keswick gives a few nice places to stop and take a walk, and then once in Keswick you can follow the A591south to Grasmere. It's a little longer, but a much less spicy drive. Nearby is Pooley Bridge, which you may need to pass through on the way to Glenridding. It's another lovely town with a brilliant book shop, a renknowned Gin shop and a lovely souvenir shop that sells excellent fudge. and places to eat if Glenridding doesn't have what you need.

What's not to like, except that it may be busy in summer.

What's not to like, except that it may be busy in summer. Beautiful scenery. Attractive village with a stream through the centre. Stunning mountains are great for exploring; beautiful Ullswater is great for water-sports and boating. Nice gift shop sells decent English Lakes ice cream and an outdoor gear shop is well stocked. Many come here to climb Helvellyn and you can get a certificate from the Information Centre.

On top of everything we expected from a comfortable stay, Nemia went extra miles to wait for us till 9:30pm, because we miscalculated the duration of our long hike/scramble. She kindly made us delicious sandwiches as well as all eateries in Glenridding had been closed by then. We couldn't thank her enough. Will definitely book her guest house when we explore the Lakes again.

Beautiful location. Hotel was spotlessly clean. Felt luxurious but comfortable. Staff were very efficient and polite. Room was spacious and definitely worth paying a little bit extra for a spectacular view!
