This place is the best I've ever rented. Just blew me away. It's beautifully clean and it's got everything. Even the guide to the property (appliances etc) was really well done. It's close to another house but it was quiet and we weren't dusturbed. If I ever want to visit anywhere within 100kms of this property, I will stay here and do the driving. I wish I could have stayed a week. Every night I would have come back and it would still have been wonderful.

Beautiful place. Immaculate. The host, Claire, was exceptional. The dinner was absolutely delicious, and our packed lunch was amazing... the food was homemade to perfection. I can not rate this place highly enough.

Excellent. Room was arranged with style and we feel relax after walking the Hadrian's wall. The dinner in hotel was very good as well as breakfast. Can only reccomend.

Delicious, breakfast,lots of choice.Very pleasant room to eat in. Owner was my waiter on first day.On second day the waitress,Angela was very efficient & pleasant.The owner,David,provided bus timetables,suggestions on how to spend an interesting day in the area,& was very amenable,& helpful. My room was delightful.Heated tile floors.Great shower.Bedroom with two single beds up carpeted stairs.Comfortable.

The hosts at The Old School House were amazing and went out of their way to make the stay as enjoyable as possible. I arrived after a long day hiking Hadrian's Wall and they had a slice of cake waiting for me. They were also the only place I stayed in to offer a lift back to the hiking trail. A good tasty and filling breakfast in the morning too. Friendly and warm atmosphere from the first moment until the last!

    This quaint village has some lovely businesses that cater especially to hikers on Hadrian's Wall. Meg's House of Tea and the Samson Inn are treasures. The 122 bus services this town, making it very convenient.

    Lots of walks in the local area.

    Lots of walks in the local area. The Bridge Inn was open for drinks and we spent New Year’s Eve in the pub. The owners were friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately Megs tea rooms were closed during our stay but this is recommended locally.

    Quaint little village , nice and quiet if you’re trying to escape the hustle and bustle of city life yet within a matter of minutes you are at prominent landmarks. There are also many hidden gems within walking distance

    Gilsland was a stop-off point for us walking Hadrian's Wall...

    Gilsland was a stop-off point for us walking Hadrian's Wall Path. Due to various mishaps, I felt almost ready to give up but our lovely overnight stay here put me back in the right frame of mind to continue the next day. Very quiet village, a good pub to eat in at night and just minutes from the HW Path.

    Stylish, super clean, spacious rooms, quiet, comfy huge bed, great breakfast and dinner with plenty of drink choice. Anything I wanted was there and the owners are welcoming and have done a fabulous conversion of this amazing house it’s like a luxury hotel.

    Jackie was a fantastic host. Our room / studio was absolutely stunning. Jackie booked us a meal in a nearby hotel restaurant and gave us a lift there and back. Breakfast was 5 stars . The huge bed was very comfortable and we fell in love with Noah.

    We were starting our hike of Hadrians Wall from Gilsland. The Dacre House was the perfect start. Beautiful room, very comfortable bed, great drinks and dinner and packed lunch to go was awesome. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

    Second time walking the Wall and second time staying. Best accommodation on both trips. Village pub was shut for refurbishment, so host drove us to and from local hotel where we had a lovely meal.
