It is just amazing city. Very much like a from fairy-tale. We loved it (2 adults, 1 child 8 years). We were there at the festival-time mid to end July (not knowing about this event but it was an amazing surprise and we took advantage of it and visited lots of the events). Since it was also during Tattoo time, the city center has been very crowded, but was not a problem for us. Just expect prices for accommodation to be higher than usual. For us it was worth it. Super friendly people everywhere. Want to come back soon :-) We took the sightseeing bus at the first day - recommendable. Very walkable city with ancient architecture.
Very walkable city with ancient architecture. Loved the Royal Mile and the Edinburgh Castle. Easy to take trams to and from the airport and around the city. Edinburgh has lots of good bookshops and also yarn and fabric shops. Most of the museums are free and a useful resource if you need the toilet. The architecture is beautiful and there are stunning views from the castle and hills. Some of the art galleries are free. Excellent bus and tram links in the City.We are keen walkers and enjoyed getting round on foot, there is plenty to see. We found people open and friendly. I could not find fault with my time in Edinburgh,my hotel was great,the food was excellent,especially the pastry goods,and cakes. From Edinburgh you can get to a multitude of other places,either by Bus or Train,or by taking one of the many tours on offer.
