I liked that it was a traditional guest house....no frills...
I liked that it was a traditional guest house....no frills just a comfortable and very clean room with a fantastic breakfast. Dounby is near to some major archaeological sites which are all well signposted. Stromness is not far from Dounby and is where the Ferry from Scrabster arrived and departs. Stromness is a beautiful wee town - I much preferred it to Kirkwall. For any visitor I would advice getting a good map and reading up a bit before you decide where you want to visit, depending on your interests. Also....just drive around and you'll find places .....nowhere is very far to drive and you'll come across interesting vistas and great craft shops everywhere.Guest review byLesleyUnited Kingdom - 6.0

Dounby is situated at a crossroads with an hotel, post office, pharmacy, co op supermarket and a couple of craft shops. Everything you need for stay of a couple of nights.However there is no choice of other places to eat and drink unless you drive to the Merkister Hotel a couple of miles up the road and it's not always possible to have meal there as we discovered because they can be booked up.Guest review byJanetUnited Kingdom
