FAQs about hotels in Derby

Historic Pioneer with Noble Connections

Bordering the Peak District, pioneering Derby was the site of the first factory during the Industrial Revolution. The city was a silk producer and a former mill forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Derwent Valley Mills, lining the Derwent River between Derby and Matlock.

Also by the river is Darley Park which hosts an annual chamber orchestra concert. The city centre arboretum was England’s first public park, and Markeaton Park in the north-west has a light railway. Nearby is the university campus and 18th-century Kedleston Hall, a Palladian-style mansion involved in filming of ‘The Duchess’.

Another royal connection is Bonnie Prince Charlie who stayed at Exeter House. A replica of his room is in Derby Museum and Art Gallery, and there is a statue of him in Cathedral Square. Opposite is the oldest pub, the Dolphin Inn, but the best nightlife is around Friar Gate.

The nearby Cathedral Quarter is full of eateries and shops, and the Westfield Centre houses big name brands. The Grade II-listed Market Hall offers a range of stalls above underground tunnels which are supposedly haunted by one of Derby’s many ghosts.

Derby County FC play at Pride Park, near the train station and several hotels with parking. Booking.com also offers cheap apartments and guest houses near East Midlands Airport.

We were in Derby to spend time with our grandchildren and there was so much to do there with them. We had family day passes on the busses and they loved the double Deckers and going to the various playgrounds and fun parks. Every day we found a different place to have lunch and there are so many to choose from.

Our stay in Derby was short but we were a bit disappointed . St Marys church and derby cathedral are stunning but theres not much else to see or do around the cathedral quarter .The streets seemed to be full of fast food outlets this made some of the streets look a bit tacky . We struggled to find any nice restaurants . Theres a big shopping centre which is much like every other big shopping centre , not really much else to say

It is a lovely city, full of cultural architecture. We were only there for one night, but did spend most of Sunday exploring the City. We ended up at the Museum of the Making. This is a very good Museum to visit. It's not you every day clinical museum exhibits, It's exhibits encourage you to think. all the items have a connection with Derby, some more obvious than others. Derby connections to the railway and aerospace is well catered for along with textiles. The Museum itself is located in a former Silk mill. We even had lunch at the museum, which was surprisingly very good, not your usual museum fair. The prices were quite reasonable as well.

The reception staff were very welcoming, the room was comfortable and clean. Even as a resident I had to pay a further £6.00 to park over night!! The room was a double based on two sharing and with breakfast included. As I was alone I enquired to a reduction for breakfast however the confused staff informed me that breakfast was included in the price!! I only had the one breakfast !! On the whole it was a very comfortable overnight stay and great if you are coming for the football.

Not appropriate as we did not look around Derby, the countryside around was picturesque and there were many places to visit but as we were going to a wedding venue we did not explore them. We live only an hour away so Kedleston and Chatsworth are places we have visited before, both are well worthwhile attractions.

We went to Derby for the Rail 200 Greatest Gathering, which for train enthusiasts was absolutely brilliant. What wesawof Derby was therefore restricted to the site of Derby Railway Works, and the surrouinding streets with the workers' terrace houses. Derby was well signposted, so it was easy to negotiate our way to the venue and back out afterwards.

Excellent room. Quite spacious compared with many hotels. Very clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Continental breakfast was fine, although cooked breakfast was also available at the weekend. Plenty of car parking space and ideally situated close to the A38 and A50 for connection to the M1. Pleasant location on the outskirts of Derby's Littleover suburb.

This hotel hadn't been on booking.com for very long, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Very happy with my stay. Greeted by friendly staff. Room was comfortable and well appointed. The building itself has an interesting history, so worth asking about it. I'll be staying again next time I'm in Derby. Thanks very much
