I’ve visited Chirk on many occasions for business and...
I’ve visited Chirk on many occasions for business and leisure. The village is quieter since the building of the bypass. One feature to see is the aqueduct. Nearby Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is famous but Chirk Aquaduct is impressive too. It runs alongside the railway viaduct over a deep valley. Disappointing. Don't be taken in.
Disappointing. Don't be taken in. It's not really a castle, its a stately home and not a very interesting one at that. Only part of the 'castle' can be viewed, what can be seen is not very interesting and poorly presented and not set in context. There were no information screens, very little signage and what information there was consisted of 'this is a painting of a person you've never heard of. This is another'. Plenty of space in the rooms, staff very good. A few things to do around the hotel as well. Note that the restaurant is permanently closed so you have to go out to eat which is fine as there is plenty of places a short distance away. Breakfast was very good. Lots of choice. THE FACT THAT THERE IS A CENTRE LIGHT IN THE ROOM WAS SURPRISING AND A WELCOME RELIEF AS THIS IS UNUSUAL IN HOTEL ROOMS. THE ROOM WAS LARGE AND VERY CLEAN. Really nice pool, jacuzzi and sauna - steam room was out of action. Although busy A5 is so close we could not hear any traffic noise in our room.
