FAQs about hotels in Lille

A French and Flemish Chocolate Box

A few miles from the Belgian border, Lille displays Flemish influence in both architecture and cuisine. Its most famous square - Grand Place - is home to the beautiful Vielle Borse building, the Lille Christmas markets and several restaurants serving moules-frites and local beer.

Behind that is the Palais Rihour, a rather odd-looking building surrounded by cafes. In the opposite direction is another square with the opera house at the centre and triangular-shaped buildings fanning off in 3 directions. One of these cobbled streets leads to the Old Town, where boutiques and international brands are in beautifully crafted shops.

Shopping in Lille is actually epic. It has Europe’s largest bookstore (the 8-floor Furet du Nord) and largest flea market - the Braderie de Lille. Then there is the bustling Wazemmes market and the huge Euralille shopping centre. The town also has some fantastic chocolate shops.

Other attractions include the Musée des Beaux-Arts and the Citadelle – a 17th-century fortress surrounded by a free zoo and gardens.

Lesquin Airport is on the city’s outskirts, but most visitors arrive at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, named after Lille’s most famous son. If travelling to Lille by Eurostar, check out the mural of famous European landmarks before heading to your Booking.com hotel, B&B or apartment.

Didn’t love the food at the restaurants, very little nature/scenery (although it was very bike friendly with lots of dedicated paths through parks), and the pharmacy skin care product options were limited compared to Paris. On a good note, there were some neat shops and the people were very friendly and patient with our terrible French.

    Lille is so underated.

Lille is so underated. I like a quiet life, not too much walking, so local transport. But I have already seen quite a few places with my previous visits. So I do not need to be a tourist. But best of all is the cuisine, and that is not necessary the best restaurants. C'est pour moi nice food, moins cher at/when in my own pace. And especially, cooked food from the Supermarkets which is always improving. But always keeping an eye on the waist line. Not easy in France.

Lille is a lovely compact city for relaxing with good shopping and eating/drinking options. Our second visit to Lille and both times have thought it isn’t the cleanest of cities which can distract from its charm. We also found some of the Lillois not the most hospitable of people towards tourists. Overall though we’ve had an enjoyable weekend, particularly had a great experience with the staff at our hotel and L’Apéritif in Vieux-Lille where they were very welcoming and helpful.

Lille is one of my favorite cities where my partner and I visit quite often and sometimes I travel there alone just because it is such a beautiful, friendly and historical city with so many things to do and see.

It was raining for a couple of the three days I was there but even so there are things to do inside. In the sun the park is big and I spent a lot of time there on the first day and it's really easy to walk around Lille I did the City Tour by coach provided by the tourist office and although I had walked a lot of the route it does give you a different view of Lille. The Palais des Beaux-Arts is a wonderful building housing paintings and sculptures. If you like art you can spend quite a few hours here and it has a cafe. I was leaving late afternoon on my final day and it was torrential rain so I went into the shopping mall. Loads of shops and restaurants.

Although the rooms are a bit small in size it all fits into the expectations you'd have from a boutique hotel. Very friendly staff, all spoke better English than we did French and to be honest that goes for most of the establishments in Lille. Wonderful location, right in the centre of old Lille with a large parking garage nearby. (200 m walk) Never knew Lille was such a pretty city, what a pleasure to walk around.

A lovely hotel in the centre of Lille. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and we slept really well. Despite being on the first floor and in the city centre, there was no noise bleed from outside at all. Staff were great, and it is well priced. Recommended!
