Yes it’s in the middle of nowhere, but we knew that when we booked (you can see location on the map) and it was exactly what we wanted. Room was comfortable and warm, shower/sauna/toilets were all good, staff were great. breakfast was a good sized portion and tasted good. You have to get the bus/drive a while if you want to be in city or do tours etc. but there is Forrest right outside and a lake within 1km of the property and we spent our time exploring without another person in sight. We went out at night and saw the northern lights 2 out of 2 nights we were there, it’s very easy to find great spots without other people or light pollution in just a couple of minutes walk. Mini fridge and microwave available to use as well. overall great place to stay.

The surrounding environment is like a fairyland. There is a big lake behind the house, which is very convenient to observe the aurora. The landlord is very good. He helped us make an appointment with a lovely driver. This is really an unforgettable accommodation experience.

This was my second time staying at this cozy Finnish cabin—my first visit was two years ago. Some things have changed since then, but the important parts remain the same. The new additions, like the restaurant and the second sauna, are great upgrades. Although it’s self-catering here, the restaurant is perfect for us when we didn’t feel like cooking. The food is authentic Finnish cuisine, and it really adds to the experience. What hasn’t changed is the stunning scenery and the hospitable people. It’s for me the perfect place to disconnect from city life and enjoy some peace and quiet away from the tourist crowds in Rovaniemi. We stayed for several days, and there’s always something to do—Nordic skiing, husky safaris, chasing the northern lights on the lake, or just relaxing in the sauna. It’s impossible to get bored. This place has such a special charm, and I’m already looking forward to coming back a third time!

I was amazing. Riitta already prepared everthing befor I arrived and if you wanna have the real finnish experiance you are excatly right there! Classic finnish sauna, your cabin heated by your own with wood and if you need something else Riitta is there ! You can use snowshoes and go walking in the forest. Enjoy the calmness and make your food in a cozy fireplace if you want. By car you drive only about 30min from santa clouse village up north ! And Riitta is soo friendly and makes you feel home 🫶🏻

Stunning cottage where we saw our first ever Northern Lights. Peaceful, clean, authentic, what a dream. We will miss you dearly Villa Haapala. Host was also a fantastic communicator. Thank you for providing us with the best Xmas of our lives!
