Almunecar is a sprawling resort town divided into several shingle beaches. The hotels tend to be large and well managed. There are many bar and restaurants and a few souvenir shops, but not a lot else. If you have a car or are cycling the mountains and their villages are easily accessible. If you do not have transport there is not much to do apart from walking and going to the beach. Remember that in this province all alcoholic drinks are served with free tapas. We had never visited this area before and were pleasantly surpirsed. Its a large town with its own well defined character. It doesnt appear to be too over touristy, We only had limited time but manged to visit the Botanical gardens and the Roman Viaduct. Its only a short trip little more than an hour from Malaga and is a good stopping off point for a night or two or more if you have the time. I will visit this area again and hopefully be able to visit the Castle which overlooks the town.Guest review byCRwexIreland
