    This hotel has more of a bare-bones appeal to it, but comes with a long history and period-accurate restoration. It is in the Pingyao Old City, they allow late check-in and check-out. Hosts speak english and are very kind and helpful.

    The city is undeniably beautiful and feels like a living museum, perfectly preserved in time. However, it’s very touristy, with shops that all seem to offer the same souvenirs, making it feel like a true tourist trap. It’s worth a quick visit, but I wouldn’t recommend spending too much time there. Additionally, I was disturbed to see many pigs and other animals kept in small quarters in some stores. If you’re sensitive to animal welfare issues, this may be hard to stomach. Overall, while the city has its charm, be mindful of its tourist-centric nature.

    Beautiful ancient city, and you still can feel the daily normal leaving of its inhabitants. Liked the most to have 99.9999% chinese tourist at this time of the year, Mid March. Only 4 westerners encountered. Chinese History at its best. Lots of historical places to visit and learn from ancient China. Unmissable for local and foreigner travellers.

    Incredibly beautiful town, totally made up of traditional Chinese architecture (at least on the main streets). You can buy a ticket that allows entry into many of the sites, including the Draft Bank, Temple of the City God, Confucius Temple and so many more, and then spend a day wandering around exploring them as you come across them. (Note that some of the smaller ones have almost no English signs, so it can be difficult to know what they are!). We bought the ticket from a window nearby (1 minute east) of the draft bank, but there may be other places. It's also interesting to go up the City Walls and see the town from above.

    The friendliness of the staff was amazing, my car was met by a wonderful lady with a big umbrella as it was pouring and cars can't enter the city walls and helped with my luggage. Even though they didn't speak English everyone went out of their way to make me comfortable and upgraded me so I could stay in a little suite for a second night instead of changing rooms. The hotel though in a very old building had all mod cons.

    The location is superb, in the middle of the ancient city of Pingyao at the main street. At arrival we got a free room upgrade to an immense large room, including a bath, it was heaven! Bed slept very comfortably, everything is clean and we had a hightec toilet which opens when you arrive. All luxurious.

    The staff are great in particular, Yen at the front desk and the girl who attended us at tea time (forgot to ask her name). Very genuine, friendly, helpful yet efficient. Location is strategic. Literally a 2 mins walk to the main street. The hotel amenities are top notch & beds are comfortable.

    The staff were exceptional, and were on hand to provide a first class experience. The rooms are well designed and provide a feeling of luxury and amenity while preserving the historical character of the building (which is the major draw of Pingyao)

    We had an amazing stay at Elsewhere Hotel in Pingyao! The rooms were wonderful and the personnel was incredibly friendly (and English speaking) and helped us with all our questions. We recommend this hotel.
