The city has a mixture of architecture.

The city has a mixture of architecture. It suffered from an extensive fire so many of the older wooden buildings were distroyed. There are a number of eating establishments but booking is necessary if you wish to eat between 6 -7.30. Whilst we stayed 4 nights this was firstly to acclimatise and at the end to prepare for the second half of our trip in Canada and refresh our luggage. Two days are sufficient for St John's but there are various places of interest within a hours drive. We found the food in The Gypsy Tea Rooms the best and other than the old fort area walking is the best way to get around

We did a tour with JellyBean tours that covered so many of the 'hot spots' in the area that was exceptional. So many sights to see and spots to explore. There is so much to see and explore in beautiful St Johns that we could have spend another few days there easily and enjoyed so much more of what the city has to offer. Can't wait to come back !!

Anyone who has been to Newfoundland knows that it is the people themselves who make the experience a memorable one. Our drive around the entire country, which included St John's, gave us memories to brighten even the darkest hours which may loom in the distance. There is a special humanity in this province which cannot be replicated because it is unique to Newfoundland and its people. How fortunate is any person who has the privilege to spend time with them. This is the souvenir that we carry with us now; faith in the road ahead.

Lots of pubs and restaurants, we had a fabulous dinner at St. John’s Fish Exchange. Walked to Signal Hill and Quidi Vidi, spectacular views. Spent a morning at The Rooms which was an incredible experience. We are both fans of Michael Crummey and The Rooms brought his books to life for us.

St. John's is a favourite for me.

St. John's is a favourite for me. I enjoy shopping along Water St. and sampling the many restaurants in the area. It's fun to walk along George St. and stop in for a drink and some local entertainment at O'Reilly's. There are many tour companies that will shuttle you out of town for whale watching and puffin sanctuary tours. I love hiking the North Head Trail on Signal Hill. The views are spectacular and its a good workout that you can do at your own pace. I usually bring some snacks to sit and enjoy along the way. If you have mobility issues, this is not a hike for you.

Great city, friendly people, lots of restaurants and shops.

Great city, friendly people, lots of restaurants and shops. They close down Water Street in the summer where there are restaurants, cafes and shops and allow it to be a pedestrian walking area. St. John's is a walkable city, but not easy for people with mobility. Lots of hills and steps.

We loved everything. The breakfast was incredible and the property was unique, perfectly located, and gorgeous. Mary was welcoming, helpful, and took such good care of us. Her warmth and kindness made us feel at home. Robert was a gracious host and had excellent recommendations for what to see and where to eat. We had a fabulous time and can’t wait to return to Newfoundland where we will absolutely stay at The Ryan Mansion.

The location was great, being that it was right downtown in the heart of the city. The bed was very comfortable and the room overall had a very comfortable atmosphere. I enjoyed this more than a usual hotel stay because the building was unique and wasn't you're usual chain hotel.

The cafe in the hotel is great if you don't feel like sitting down to a big breakfast. They have a good variety of fresh pastries to choose from. There is comfortable seating in the lobby if you are waiting for a cab or tour company.
