Although located just off the Cabot Trail, one does not have...
Although located just off the Cabot Trail, one does not have to drive far to reach the trail at Margaree Forks. That is just what we did having spent several days exploring the landscape which is so good it is best not to rush it. Port Hood has accommodations, 2 restaurants that we visited (the Clove Hitch and the Admiral) and both restaurants were recommended to us by friends we have who live elsewhere on Cape Breton. We also spent two nights at Ingonish Beach which is on the trail itself but Port Hood was certainly not disappointing even though it is not on the trail.Guest review byGARYUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Port Hood is a charming town with amazing views of the bay. The nearby Clove Hitch Bar & Bistro had a delicious dinner selection. The towns of Mabou and Inverness have many restaurants and small shops to visit and both have lovely beaches. Inverness Beach was highly recommended for its spectacular sunsets and the sunset was breathtaking. We liked The Corner Store by miss brenna in Inverness, which had a nice variety of snacks, baked goods and even lemonade from France! We enjoyed our dinner at The Red Shoe in Mabou. The lookout points along the Cabot Trail to Cape Breton Highlands National Park provide breathtaking views. The Park itself is worth visiting for hikes, especially the Skyline Trail, which we did not complete as it was quite hot that day.Guest review byElizabethUnited States - 10.0
Port Hood is a pretty little place.
Port Hood is a pretty little place. If you like the ocean then this is the place for you. The beaches are so close and beautiful. This is why we went there and didn't have a clue that most of the beaches are right there. This is a lovely place to stay!
This is a lovely place to stay! I have stayed there on two different occasions and had a wonderful experience both times. I stayed in one of the suites, which was well equipped. Having a full fridge, stove top, oven and microwave were great to have! Internet was not great, but that's the norm for that whole area, so not specific to the Hebridean Motel. The place was super clean and the staff was very helpful and accommodating. The beds were comfy, and the AC was much appreciated with the hot weather. Upon arrival, we were met by the owner; there were no problems with communication or check-in, although we arrived in the evening. I give it 5 stars for cleanliness! Perfect! There is a microwave, air conditioning, towels, hair dryer, refrigerator, coffee maker, everything worked without fail. The entrance from the main road is convenient, we didn’t have to look for a hotel for long. There is a beautiful beach nearby with a paved wooden path along it, it was nice to enjoy the views!
