We arrived in the evening and toured Tirana the following day. That would have been enough but we stayed another day. The city has an amazing number of restaurants and cafes on nice tree lined streets. For some reason, Tirana has no historic town center like most European cities but the area around Skanderbeg Square is interesting. One is constantly reminded of the distressing time when the communists controlled the country and suppressed the entire population. Definitely visit the Bunk'Art 1 Museum (and Bunk'Art 2 if you have time). Also visit the "House of Leaves" museum to get a feeling for the incredible surveillance through which the communists controlled the country.Guest review byGaryGermany - 10.0

A city which has potential to be really great with lots of...
A city which has potential to be really great with lots of things to do from day excursions, food and just spend a day to experience communist history. Lots of food options available and coffee in most places were really good. Going around the city and food can be done in a budget friendly way. Lot of the city monuments were free to access and you can easy spend hours exploring them. Interesting city with room for improvement The city definitely has a lot to offer and many places worth discovering. However, some areas are unfortunately quite littered, which takes away from the overall experience. The overwhelming crowds in certain spots also make the capital feel less enjoyable at times. A very different experience to most other places in Europe. In some ways chaotic… for example roads and traffic but everyone just gets on with things. Initially people may not seem friendly but as soon as you interact with them then they are… especially those in hospitality. Tips are not the norm or expected but are gratefully received. There are a number of sites to see in the city and lots of history. The House of Leaves is a must visit. Also well worth a trip to surrounding countryside such as Lake Bovilla and the mountains.
