We were slightly sceptical about this place as it only had two reviews, but we are so glad we booked. This was a great guesthouse with traditional Japanese rooms in a gorgeous village. The host was incredibly helpful (even walking us to a local restaurant to make sure we got a space as everywhere was fully booked). We felt incredibly welcome, had comfy beds, a lovely room, and everything we needed.

Very nice house close to Mount Aso. For us as western foreigners the whole region was quite different from the picture we typically make ourselves of Japan - much more rural and rather sparsely populated. Very interesting to see and experience. Ken is an excellent host, giving great recommendations and caring for his guests.

We stayed for 2 nights at Hokkoma cottage and loved our stay. The property itself was wonderful, had everything we needed and felt like home. Our trip was focused on taking advantage of Aso's beautiful nature and the cottage's location allowed us to do this. It was also great to know that there was a large bath to use after the hike to soak our tired legs!

This property was amazing in many ways .. the communication from the host , the amount of free supplies/ ingredients left for us . Hot towels on arrival, freshly baked bread , super clean and comfortable accommodation . Easy parking just outside , laundry with dryer. The house and its decor is all whimsical and cosy . It felt like home away from home . My three daughters loved it. Wish we had more than a 1 day stay here . There is also so much to see and do in this area . We hopefully will be back some day !
