The house is traditional Japanese but with modern amenities super nice and very comfortable. Room is spacious with an AC, remote controlled lights and a very comfortable futon bed. The couple living there is lovely and of a rare kindness, truly embodying Japanese hospitality. When I stayed there it rained all day and they game me a lift to Takkoku-no-iwaya by car, patiently waiting for me visiting the location. They prepare an amazing homemade traditional breakfast and were nice to chat with as well, available for anything I neeced. My time there was short but I can't recommend this place enough if you're in Hiraizumi.

We enjoyed the nearby onsen, which is free if you stay at one of the cottages. When we came back from the onsen in the evening, the staff started a bonfire outside that just enhanced the magical atmosphere. We found a couple of sweet potatoes in a plastic bag hung at our door handle and fully enjoyed roasting them in the bonfire. Such an amazing stay!
