The infinity pool overlooking the turquoise sea is mesmerizing, and the lush, immaculately kept gardens create a perfect oasis for relaxation. It was wonderful to be able to walk barefoot through the fine sand and simply enjoy the tranquility. For anyone, but especially for vegans, the restaurant is a must-visit. The creative and delicious vegan dishes, all beautifully prepared and presented by the talented students, were a true highlight. It's a testament to the high-quality training they are receiving. The breakfast, in particular, was the best I had during my three-week stay in Tanzania, the homemade warm bread and homemade chocolate spread were unforgettable. For lunch and dinner, with main courses priced between $11 and $13, it offers exceptional value. This 15-room hotel is a quiet retreat. I stayed when it was almost empty and had no issues with noise, but even when full, the large garden and pool area should provide plenty of space for guests. The price range for double rooms in the 2025 high season was 70-100 USD. All rooms face the sea, though the view can be a bit limited from some of the downstairs rooms. While the large windows are beautiful, the curtains don’t fully cover them, which could be a privacy concern for some. I prefer a firm mattress, and the bed was perfect for me, but it might be a bit too hard for others. The solar-powered hot water worked flawlessly. The road to the hotel is a little bumpy on the last kilometer, but there are plans to improve it. In the bathrooms, I would have appreciated a bit more space to dry towels, or a drying rack on the terrace.

Everything. The perfect location, the nice details everywhere, the food, and of course the kindness of the owners and everybody working at Mama Root. It was a perfect getaway spot.

It’s a brand new resort, true five star experience in any sense. Spread on large space so guests do not feel crowded in any way. They have a nice sandy beach about 2m from sea level as coast is like this. However you easily go for a great swim experience on the stairs they built. Swimming on the sunset light reflected on water was excellent. Water not too dip when tide not at highest, so even kids can swim there. Beach is trully private as part of the resort land, which is rare in Zanzibar. Events every evening next to beach area are good quality, either music or dance shows. Great breakfast, we loved the fresh fruits, fresh juices. Breakfast space is fabuluous.

Location incredible. Unlike rest of zanzibar there is very very little trash and plastic floating around on the beach, and the water is clear. There is beach and nature as long as the eye can see and very little people. Owner is excellent and staff is very very nice - consider tipping them when you leave if you pay your whole bill upon checkout. At least if you usually tip meals etc. Room and privacy nice, private sunbeds outside room. No AC as one should expect from an eco-lodge, but a fan that works well. Room is good, Seaview and spacious. Big restroom. Relatively large village within walking distance. It is very interesting to walk through. There is a large large baobab tree with a staircase that leads up into the tree. This is nice, and cost 1 usd i think. Also you can buy cold soda and crisps etc in many of the local kiosks. Came here for Christmas, and I had maybe the best Christmas dinner I've ever had. Special Christmas eve package of 4 courses including lobster, and coffee and a cocktail for under 30 usd. Also great paella with lobster, calamari, octopus and tuna for 30k tsh the next day, also amazing. Very nice vibe and clientele was very nice and polite. Staff great!! They are lovely and I wish I could have gotten to know them by staying longer - maybe another time.

Best place I have been to on the Island! It was so quiet you could hear the wind. Love the small details everywhere. Friendly staff, most beautiful sunset and delicious food. I would definitely recommend this place and be back in the future. Special thanks to all the staff you made my stay memorable.

The property was absolutely exceptional. We had the private luxury villa and the attention to detail was second to none. The pool, the view, the room was out of this world. The access to the beach and the luxury from it is beyond great. The sunset beach area is equally nice where we played a bit of volleyball, beach tennis and got to admire the beauty of Zanzibar sunsets. The staff was equally great with Musa taking great care of us.

3rd time there and always excellent with a great attention to clients. 50 m long swimming pool when tide is low sea when tide is high. The new arrangement of the beach villas with direct sand access to the beach is great Special mention to Edith and her team decorating our room everyday . Kind attention for my birthday
