Due to an unforeseen change of plans, we booked our stay just a few hours before arriving. Joao contacted me right away via WhatsApp to let us know he wouldn’t be there initially, but he made sure someone was expecting us and ready to greet us. This excellent communication continued throughout our stay. Joao’s hospitality was the standout—he was always available for anything we needed and genuinely cared that we had a great experience. He went out of his way to make sure everything was perfect. Breakfast was delicious, with fresh fruit, bread and eggs, (and even soya yoghurt—which he had gone out especially to get for me as a vegetarian) Our room had a beautiful view of the sea, and we could hear the waves crashing as we fell asleep—I slept really well here. The location is in a village, and although we don’t speak Portuguese, the locals were very friendly. We even enjoyed a drink at the local bar and felt very safe the entire time.

We loved absolutely everything there. It is on a perfect spot, in a lovely village close to an amazing surf spot. Spacious and very well equipped. From the first day we felt home. My stay in Hotel Kriola surpassed all my expectations. Kriola is a small, familiar hotel facing Ana Chavez bay. If you are looking for a comfortable, well located place, look no further. The room was spacious and the bed extremely comfy. The room had AC, a small fridge and an amazing bathroom. Breakfast is diverse and buffet style. The hotel is extremely clean and located next to the biggest supermarket in all São Tomé island. You'll be located within 10mins walk to all the major interest points (the Museum, Papa Figos restaurant, city centre, Diogo Vaz chocolate showroom, etc...). The swimming pool was amazing to relax in the afternoon. The staff is amazing and will go above and beyond to assist you. Dinner here was one of the best meals of my holiday (I was in Sao Tomé for 9 days so it says a lot). When we arrived at São Tome, we stayed 2 nights in Pestana and I wished I had stayed in Kriola instead because it was, by far, the best hotel in the whole island. I travelled with a 6 year old.

The breakfast was a buffet style and was better and with more variety than most European or American 4+ start hotels. Good quality food, good use of local foods, very attentive service. I liked how they used some of the local chocolate syrups and preserves, as well as fruits and coffee. Excellent view of the sea for a bonus! We also had shows every evening, including a local live band and a youth orchestra playing local music. Both were great! The starts of this hotel however were the staff. The front desk was efficient, they were ready for the check in, they had the bill ready for the checkout, and they were always smiling and eager to help. The bartenders and maids were also friendly and proactive, very proactive, same for the towel person at the pool. And Bruna was fantastic! she was all over the place, talking to guests and helping in any way possible from getting taxis to organizing tours, making dinner reservations at local restaurants, etc. In summary, customer service was in line with or better than most 4+ star hotels in Europe or the USA.

Amazing location and facilities. Beautiful views. Well equipped kitchen. Mostly private beach ( with the exception of a few people walking by) The staff were kind looking after a few stray dogs on the property.
