If I could rate this higher than 10 — I would. Incredibly beautiful, better than the pictures, the staff are INCREDIBLE, there is an adjoining restaurant that serves all meals, they are also INCREDIBLE, best food we’ve eaten in all of Sri Lanka.

Manu and Shashi are very friendly and nice. We had really good time there, we also hanged out together during the day. Breakfast is delicious, we also ate fish dinner there that you really shouldn’t skip! We felt like a part of the family and we really recommend this place.

I think it was our best stay in 4 weeks in Sri Lanka. The host is one of the most friendly persons you can ever meet. He helped us to arrange taxi, scooter and did his best that we could see the baby sea turtles. He even offered late check-out without asking anything. Room is so big and was so modern like you’re staying in a 5-star luxury hotel. Best beach in Tangalle is 2 minutes by walk from this place. They prepared breakfast at our terrace and it was so delicious. And wifi was also so good, this is rare to find in Sri Lanka. We’ll definitely come back here again.

We spent a lot of time researching hotels and accommodation along the south coast of Sri Lanka. We wanted to find somewhere that was clean and comfortable by western standards, that had a bar and restaurant, had a swimming pool and was on the beach. We found all of this and more at the Sleeping Elephant with a superb team looking after us under the friendly eye of owners Jaroslav and Monika. We didn't want to be in a busy area, tick, we didn't want crowds, tick, we didn't want nightlife and late bars, tick, we wanted wild and relatively quiet beaches with accessible restaurant/bars along the beach, tick. We got everything we wanted there, being in a very comfortable and spacious villa in a small resort where you get hands on hospitality without people being overbearing. The food is really good and there's a good choice there and on the drinks menu. While we were there we saw a mixture of families and couples and all seemed to be really happy with their choice to stay here. We saw turtles laying eggs nearby in a managed conservation beach, saw masses of wildlife in and around the resort (monkeys, eagles, monitors) and felt so safe and comfortable for the entire time. Thanks so much Jaroslav, Monika and team, it was our first time in Sri Lanka and our first stop and you made it a dream start in a beautiful country.

A very well-kept facility, located in a quiet location, with access to the lagoon. We swam in a kayak belonging to the facility and had the opportunity to observe many species of birds, including eagles. Moreover, while sitting for breakfast, you can admire several species of colorful birds flying between the trees. Fantastic! Extremely spacious and clean room. Food also very good. Extremely nice and helpful gentleman. He arranged for us to pick up a tuk tuk at the hotel. We recommend this place!

Wow - really special and unique stay here. Truly on the beach. Loved hearing the sea right next to us while in bed. Shower was also great - really powerful. Staff were also lovely and the hotel’s bar/ restaurant was the perfect place for sunset drinks on the beach.

Amazing place. Staff is very friendly. In this place you can relax and forget about life. Around a hotel you can find a lot of beautiful views and animals. The location of the hotel is excellent as you have 2 min by walk to the beach where you can find restaurants. I had breakfast in the hotel, which was fresh, made by members of staff, and was really delicious. Also, you can inform staff what time you would prefer to have your breakfast. My room was clean, and I did not have any issues. I also love that they have friendly dog and own animals.
