Set in Matsukawa, 24 km from The Japan Ukiyo-e Museum, ワールドカリーの館 すぱいすろーど offers accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a shared lounge and a terrace. The hotel located along the Oito Line that was accessible by car or taxi from Shinano-Matsukawa, Kita-Hosono or Hosono station. We had multiple email and message communications with the owners. Atsu responded to reassure that our commute concern would be solved. He would pick us up and drop off at Hosono station. The price of the hotel was very affordable and could walk to train station if having no luggage. Atsu was very accommodating to our trip plan change. He was thoughtful to drop us to the Shinano-Matsukawa station that the waiting area was warmer & was in town. Guest rooms were on the 2nd floor of a Curry Restaurant. Atsu helped carrying the suitcase up to the room & brought us furniture that we needed. He was also the chef of the restaurant. The food was yummy. We highly recommended this

Close to Togakushi Shrine, 宿屋白金家 yadoya-shiroganeya 1日1組限定2名から8名様まで 全館貸切り 伝統的建造物の旅籠宿 Traditional culture experience is set in Nagano and has a hot spring bath and garden. Shiroganeya is a traditional Japanese minshuku. Our host Maki-san was truly exceptional. She made sure our family of 6 were well-fed, well-rested, and well-prepared for our little hike to the main Togakushi shrine, which is a 7-min drive away. The dinner prepared for us was superb as well - at least 7-courses! I liked that the house itself has a lot of history. Dinner is served with precious chinaware that are more than a century-old, but still in very good shape and colour. There is adequate heating throughout the house, especially important for a cold winter stay. Maki-san also had a stash of toy cars and trains that kept our boy occupied. There’s just so much to rave about this place. Hopefully we’ll be back for a second visit!

Takimi Onsen Inn that only accepts one group per day features a hot spring bath and free private parking, and is within 9.1 km of Otsumago and 9.3 km of Kotoku-ji Temple. Wonderful hosts and attentive to your needs. The home and its surroundings are absolutely stunning. We were the only guests for one night as we were hiking up to Narai the following day. The dinner meal course was an unforgettable culinary delight. Our brief stay was one of the best cultural experiences we had in Japan and I can only imagine Takimi Onsen during peak fall season in its magnificent glory.

Tsutaya Tokinoyado Kazari features an open-air bath, free bikes, a garden and bar in Kiso. This 4-star ryokan provides a spa experience, with its hot spring bath and hot tub. Included dinner & breakfast were excellent. It's 20 minutes from Kiso-fukushima station, but they have shuttle service. 3:30pm or 5pm from train station to the ryokan. 9:30am from the ryokan to train station (there's only one shuttle service in the morning). You need to arrange shuttle service before you arrive. It's surrounded by beautiful mountains. I would stay again if I come back to Kiso-fukushima.

Opened in August 2012, B&B Hotel Hyochoan offers simple Western-style accommodations. Free in-room WiFi is available and guests can enjoy bird watching from the property’s terrace. The hosts were adorable. The room was very clean and comfortable, in a nice neighborhood. The breakfast was the best we had in all our stay in Japan.

Located within 6.1 km of Matsumoto Station and 8.5 km of The Japan Ukiyo-e Museum, Matsumoto Jujo provides rooms with air conditioning and a private bathroom in Matsumoto. Probably our best ever hotel experience, right from check in where you’re greeted with coffee and sweet treats, all the way to the dinner which was exceptional! The private onsen in the balcony with views of the mountains was a highlight.

Located in the centre of Shibu hot-spring area and a 5-minute drive from Yudanaka Train Station, Sakaeya offers Japanese-style accommodations. We were positively surprised in every aspect of our stay. Amazing room, superb staff “accueil “ , two banquets (dinner and breakfast) of incredible quality , onsen beauty, hakama (kimono shaped pieces for use be in the hotel be outside in the onsen street) quality and variety ( one for winter other for inner use ) . The private onsen was amazing but I guess any room in this place would make guests happy . It is definitely unfair to qualify it as a 3 star, it should be more .
